Well, I have managed to get a build running on Fedora Core 6. The GUI comes up, and most things work except printing, prescriptions, pdfs, PostScript preview ... lots to fix [:S]
Of course the default form of printing on Linux is postscript .. so that will make things much easier! I'm also thinking of doing an Mac OSX build. Use one of those cute $500 mini Macs as a workstation.
first alpha build is available to play with http://www.compkarori.com/emr/fedora/alpha/synapse-1 No printing No print preview Probably other things don't work either yet. Compiled for Libc6 .. so should work under Redhat, Suse. Only tested though under Fedora core 6.
Linux testers should note the following: The download directory is http://www.compkarori.com/emr/fedora/alpha/ and you should choose the highest numbered version. You need to download and install these true type fonts http://synapsedirect.com/files/folders/284/download.aspx They are necessary for the print preview in PostScript. These fonts should be installed ( as root ) to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ as Synapse EMR will specifically look in that directory to use these fonts. Please see this tutorial here http://www.linux.org.mt/article/ttfonts on how to install these fonts. There appears to be a problem with Suse/Fedora on using these fonts, but Debian should work.
Looks like different distros have their own ideas where to put truetype fonts, so I will have to create a user preference. For Suse, see http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-xfree86/2005-Jul/0005.html
Re: Linux Builds - Debian For Debian, you may need to install libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 which can done by using the Synaptics package manager to install libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2 You make also need to install the package ttmkfdir to install the Truetype fonts.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 Synapse-4 is now available at http://www.compkarori.com/emr/fedora/alpha Working: Opening documents with browser Set browser in Settings/Misc Opening PostScript and PDF documents Set PDF/PS viewer in Settings/PostScript Not working PostScript print preview from Synapse for Prescriptions and Plotting of serial results Printing is currently untested.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 Network printing is already working. Next, need to check if can get local printing to Postscript printer attached to parallel port.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 Saw some patients today using the Linux build. Noticed a few visual glitches that are not present in the Windows build.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 Synapse-5 Fixed the visual glitch that lost the button to close the encounter window.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 Synapse-6 Now calls lp when attempting to print to the parallel port.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 Synapse-7 Bold fonts now show up correctly ( changed the system font from Arial to Helvetica ).
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 Synapse-9 Printing using lp now works as tested under Suse 10.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 http://www.compkarori.co.nz/emr/linux/ First beta linux version is now available. The server and user name is now saved as a local file so that it can be restored on restarting.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 New beta - synapse-2 Equivalent to the Windows 203 beta-23 build.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 Hamachi also works with Linux. There is a how-to for setting up the Linux version, and then running VNC to see the desktop.
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 Not that I think we should concentrate on Linux builds but ... I've been learning about portableapps.com and it seems that linux can run off a USB drive. So, if Synapse could work on linux, it'll probably work on a portable USB !
Re: Linux Builds - Debian, Suse, Fedora Core 6 If you have a large enough USB drive, you could run windows off of it and thus Synapse. So, if you were a travelling doc, you just take your USB drive and plug it into any host PC and start up Synapse in your own Windows environment.
