    would I be better off (more secure) with a real server ? i.e. Windows 2000 / Windows 2003 ?

    or a NIX box ?

Right now I just use Windows XP Pro.

But to host a remotely accessible portal .. I am not sure that is enough.

A windows server should allow you to handle more simultaneous connections, but as long as you are protected by a firewall, I don't think security is an issue.

The web server needs to run under windows still... not Linux.

    I'm still not sure here.

I want a portal but without the diagnoses, surgeries, appointments, results or immunizations.

    Would that be hard ?
