I'd see a few options for updating (1) no editing at all (2) edit once, then not again. (3) editable, with physician OK. (4) entirely editable. and maybe (5) editable with a version history ? I think 5 would be handy.
I'm opting for 2 .. 5 is too much work for a first pass. I now have captcha working for patient logins to prevent hackers trying to break user passwords.
Patients can now record their home observations eg. BP, glucose, weight, steps, and PEFR. So, current feature list is: Diagnoses 4-June Digital HL7 results 5-June Long Term Medications 5-June Procedures 5-June Text results, and scanned images (names only) 6-June Download scanned images, pdfs, and faxes 6-June Display all appointments 7-June View messages 7-June Filter on results by LOINC, or type 9-June Send messages to staff 9-June Email notification of wating messages 9-June Request prescriptions 10-June Captcha test 13-June Enter home recordings 13-June https://www.compkarori.co.nz - login as guest, and password of 1234
I vow we will have the best portal of any EMR. I can't wait to have a Synapse web portal. Instead of Read / Write for messages ... could we have more description: Read Messages, Compose Message ? What about a reply button ?
I'd prefer the login/pass to lose the case-sensitiveness. I don't think that was possible. This will be a significant hassle. People will use their names as logins and not remember if they used capital letters or not. If possible, drop the case-sensitiveness. If not, maybe some warnings.
I prefer to keep case sensitive logins - it enhances the security. Anyway users can keep the settings in their browsers if they wish to remember them.
I'm a firm believer that the patient owns their own data ... so I prefer to let them view as much as possible.

A patient logs into their portal at work and any co-worker that has access to their computer now has access to their entire medical file ?
It shouldn't happen if they have their own domain login etc. Anyway, you can now reply to messages ... using the "reply" button.
I don't know any doctors willing to put their own list of patient diagnoses fully accessible to the patient. In North America, doctors own the list of diagnoses. As a family doctor, I don't have a short list of Rheumatology diagnoses, I have a massively long list of diagnoses based on the entire patient. Some might be a diagnosis yet to be finalized say "Query Bipolar" and I am not sure how helpful it would be for patients to see this information. Would it be possible to disable these features ? I would want the features entirely disabled, ie. not visible to the patient as an option.
I'm still not sure here. I want a portal but without the diagnoses, surgeries, appointments, results or immunizations. Would that be hard ?
The good stuff. I'd like to add Appointments back at some time. But only when I've migrated more fully towards using Synapse Scheduling.
Patients can now add a new diagnosis ... and a comment appears in the diagnostic details to say that it was added by them.
