Windows only: Free application Gbridge sets up a virtual private network between any computer over the internet using your Google account as a starting point. Once set up, Gbridge allows you to share files, connect to and remotely control a computer using VNC, sync folders, and back up files to another computer. If you've got Google Talk/Gmail chat friends using Gbridge, the app provides the same functionality between your computer and theirs. It all sounds a little convoluted, but in effect it's actually a relatively painless way for anyone to setup up a VPN between computers, and assuming you've already got a Google account, it doesn't require you to sign up for anything else. The application could be a bit more intuitive in practice, but in terms of what it accomplishes, it's a winner. Gbridge is freeware, Windows only. Despite the name, it's not associated with Google. http://lifehacker.com/5052583/gbridge-does-simple-but-secure-file-sharing-syncing-and-vnc There sure are alot of options in this space.
Gbridge http://www.gbridge.com if the VPN works well ... this seems like foldershare and hamachi all in one ... with a touch of logmein !
Nope. Designed best for 1 account.
I read the promo literature and I wasn't quite clear if a VPN can be set up without administrative privileges, but it seemed to imply that you could .... any idea?
My daughter also installed gbridge on her tablet, and she was able to access my desktop. I couldn't access hers though .. even we disabled her firewall. Stil, this looks like an option to allow users to get help. But it does take a little setting up.
The File Sharing features might be a neat way to get Synapse Documentation automatically to Endusers. If one PC has gmail then the files can be saved to anywhere in the network so every PC could have access to the documentation.
