Jason, just add d:\rebol-sdk-cmd\rebol-sdk-cmd\bin; to your path environment, and use this instead for the batch file.

    rebcmd -s snappyfax.r

    path-to-faxqueue = snappy fax watched directory ?

When you send a fax from the postscript preview screen, the server will dump the file as a PS file into

    ..\faxqueue\

where this is a subdirectory of where you have placed synapse-server.exe

and yes, once the directory is created, you can add it to your list of watched directories.

Virtual Faxing (DRM: it's really sending documents to other Snappy Fax clients via email/LAN/FTP)

What is a “virtual” fax ? A virtual fax is a fax document or image that is sent to another Snappy Fax user via either Email, Ftp or Local area network. Snappy Fax handles the details of zipping, transmitting and unzipping these images automatically and updates it's database without user intervention. This can be a very efficient method of exchanging documents.

A typical scenario might be one where there are a group of three individuals in a company. These individuals are scattered geographically and they have a need to exchange documents frequently. Each user has Snappy Fax installed and has entered each of the other users into his or her Virtual Client address book. Each user has (in Snappy Fax Settings) assigned himself a unique machine id. So each user is designated as machine id 001, 002, and 003. In addition, each user has made sure that the virtual client address book entries properly indicate the assigned machine id of the other users. Snappy Fax uses this machine id to determine who the virtual fax is destined for and who it came from.

The settings information and virtual client address book entries for each would be as follows:

Let's assume the names of the individuals are Jim Smith, Wilson Pickett and Sue Weatherwax.

Here are their machine id settings under Virtual Fax Setting:

Virtual Fax Settings Jim Smith Wilson Pickett Sue Weatherwax
    Machine ID 001 002 003
Here are their Virtual Client address book entries:

    Jim Smith:

    Name Email Address Machine ID
    Wilson Pickett vwilson@mycompany.com 002
    Sue Weatherwax vsuew@mycompany.com 003
    Wilson Pickett:

    Name Email Address Machine ID
    Jim Smith vjims@mycompany.com 001
    Sue Weatherwax vsuew@mycompany.com 003
    Sue Weaterwax:

    Name Email Address Machine ID
    Jim Smith vjims@mycompany.com 001
    Wilson Pickett vwilson@mycompany.com 002
As you can see, each user knows the others machine id. This is important and it is important that the virtual client address book entries reflect the same machine id as the one that user has set in his virtual fax settings.

When Snappy Fax sends a virtual fax, it uses the machine id's as part of the subject line if POP (email) is used as the virtual fax method. If Ftp or Lan is used as the virtual fax delivery vehicle, then the machine id becomes a part of the filename. Snappy Fax identifies the sender and intended recipient in this manner. Once a virtual fax has been received by the intended recipient, the file is deleted from either the server (if ftp is used) or the network directory (if Lan is used). If Pop is used, the email is retrieved and deleted from the mail server.

This can be a very efficient method of exchanging documents. Consider that you can receive a virtual fax, annotate it with your comments, highlights, whatever and them immediately with the click of a button resend it to the original sender for their review or other action. This is much faster than transmitting via regular fax.

    Virtual Fax Delivery Methods

Snappy Fax can send and receive virtual faxes via the following methods

    · Pop (Email)
    · Ftp (File transfer protocol) to a web server
    · Lan (Local area network)

Interesting things that snappyfax can do .. I must read the manual during my evaluation period!

I need to change the title of the script from

title: "Batch convert ps to pdf for snappyfax"
    to

title: "Batch convert ps to tif for snappyfax"

When I press [FaxServer] nothing happens.

There are no logs in the Server Logs either.

    Ideas ?

That is with both fields filled in. I have the latest client and latest server.

Nothing is showing up in my \\mule\D_DRIVE_mule\EMR\faxqueue\ directory either.

Did you get a message that the file was added to the faxqueue popup?

If so, it will have been written to your faxqueue directory.

Turn off snappyfax first to ensure the batch converter works.

I have updated the script now to 0.0.4 so that it optionally prints all outgoing faxes using gsprint to the default attached printer.

    Needs synapse-server 72 beta-1

  14. Jason

Jason Developer / Handyman Staff Member

    No.

    Nada.

    I have b1 server.
  15. Graham

    Graham Developer Staff Member

    that's a trifle worrying.

Did synapse-server create the faxqueue directory for you?

Browse the database and see if there is a faxqueue table created and if there is any data in it if it is there.

  16. Jason

Jason Developer / Handyman Staff Member

    I made it manually.

When I loaded Beta1, it created it.

    I'll look.

This is what you should see for the metadata if the table has been created

Ok, look at the table itself. Is there any data there?

ie. the faxes you have tried to send?

And did it create the faxqueue directory or not?

Jason Developer / Handyman Staff Member

    Nothing.

Not sure. I made it manually.
