I was going to get this http://pbxinaflash.com/ going but maybe this Everex gPC2 based preconfigure is the way to go ! The $199 Everex gPC2 systems are available from WalMart and NewEgg among others. (no international shipping).
My VOIP phones came today. They look cool. The gPC2s come next week as the shipping got messed up. Should be some cool stuff []
I have found Voip just not as good as a landline .. cutting out on me at times while speaking. And the volume isn't as loud. goodluck!
Truthfully these phones are just ethernet phones that I plan on using with Asterisk. I could just use plain old telephone lines (POTS) externally with these as well. Asterisk handles either well. I am going to get a Vonage account ASAP though as a backline.
These are my phones. Normally $300/piece, on sale for $200. The screen displays XML ! [] There are cheaper phones but I wanted to try some kick ass ones to start !
Fully working now with actual POTS lines (Plain Old Telephone Service) for superior call reliability and clarity. I ended up buying this TDM card. http://www.cigear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=304
It's VOIP fax. It does include fax to email. Not suitable for my needs though. Unlikely as good as Snappy Fax and will pale in comparison to Synapse Fax Gateway []
Had to get this going this weekend as our old phone system was dropping calls. Exciting to be back on the PBX. Looks like the PIAF geniuses are making Asterisk Integration with ODBC ! http://nerdvittles.com/?p=604
Not related to the ODBC, put the PIAF Reminders Module looks like it will be getting CSV importing ! Might be nice for Synapse users to get a FREE Telephone Reminders program. http://pbxinaflash.com/forum/showpost.php?p=26881&postcount=106
just remind me why one would pay $199 when you can download the software and install onto any old box lying around?
$199 was the cost of the Everex PC. The software is entirely free. Any PC that you can install NIX on can be made into a PIAF Asterisk Box.
I think it's probably better if you try to install the software yourself .. so that if anything goes wrong later on, you will have had some experience. And if you can't manage the install, then consider getting a pre-configured appliance.
I bought two of the Everex PCs. I make can daily backups of the entire Asterisk to the Thumb Drive. If one PC fails, plug in the other one, update it with the USB. Up and Running in a few minutes.
