Had a good brainstorm.

Just as I was about to leave the office.

Add Diagnoses should have another option to choose from the 20 (or 30, or 40) most common diagnoses. It would speed up data entry. More Later.

Doesn't the assessment template already do that?

Idea: A list with clickable diagnoses

benefits - my average 70 year old new patient will likely have


End-user can make their own diagnoses to this list.

End-user can assign a default importance code (1 to 5) per diagnosis.

End-user can easily add the year/age to this if required.

I think I'd prefer to track what people diagnose and offer that up instead of fixed choices.

Should the list be gender specific, age specific ? Probably not worth the hassle.

Not worth the hassle .. most people will only have a few 1000 patients.

• by Frequency - with year/age - importance
• by List - with year/age - importance

B21 offers the first implementation of showing the most common 50 diagnoses for *all* patients. Doing by age and gender is too much work ..


Perhaps I need a way to filter on these based on specialty / organ system ... but this is a first pass.

I see the list is only for diagnoses that have codes attached with them. Apparently I am not so good at using the codes !

As well, I see the list is generated by counting codes, and the text used is the text from the ICD file.

Forinstance :

Hypercholesterolemia 272.0 (I have 58). I never use the word Hypercholesterolemia - I use Dyslipidemia. I always change it after. I could edit the ICD.r files on all the PCs, but that has been hard to keep up with (How about having the ICDx.r files on the server and not on all the clients?).

This looks quite good already.

Ideas:

(1) sort by Frequency (highest to lowest) by default, not alphabetical.

(2) I would really like to have no scrollbar here.

(3) this is still just adding one at a time, not exactly how I was envisioning things.

(4) I am still going to run into the problem of having to delete the age. Apparently I take more new patients than you and they have many more diagnoses.

(5) more later ..dog walking ! FYI... how's the pooch ! trained yet ?

The diagnosis is taken from the very first occurence in the list of diagnoses. I will create a way to edit this list.

You can sort by clicking on the column headers.

I will allow buttons that are customizable and allow you to filter so that you won't see scroll bars ...

Is there a logical way the ICD9 codes associate with medical disciplines ?

(I take it you didn't need to associate each diagnosis with a Specialty)

Maybe there is ... but I couldn't see it. I just eye balled the most common diagnoses for ICD9, and setup filters based on what I saw.

But you can change them in the settings/user/coding.

Are buttons 13 ( Vasc ) and 14 ( Urol ) giving different results?

I see I missed renal .. so 14 for me is now Uro/Ren

Having the most common diagnoses as the default screen makes intuitive sense.
