Having had a few phone calls back recently from pharmacies asking me .. did I really mean 4x a day for "1 tab qd" which of course is "quaque die" or every day ... I am beginning to form the opinion that many pharmacists are not trained in Ye Olde Latin abbreviations.

Abbreviations are useful for typing and hand writing, but there is no reason why these abbreviations can't be expanded in full and printed as such. I am hoping that this will stop these phone calls, and also those questions patients ask about these abbreviations.

I usually use 1 tab po q day, and this seems to work fine since "qiday or q i day" would be senseless, I haven't had a problem with it that I know of. I could just write "1 tab po every day", and some do, I see.

Interesting. I really don't like qd as it does look too close to qid.
    I mostly use ramipril 5mg 1 tab po od M: 100 R: 3
    I plan to use Ramipril 5mg daily M: 100 R: 3
The patients certainly ask. I think the short forms came from wanting to do things faster by handwriting. Not much use for that now.
Al's Word EMR converts 1 tab po od to 1 tab daily.
I like daily, twice daily, not sure what for TID or QID. Probably: 3 times a day and 4 times a day ?
This would also help if patients were looking at their meds in the portal.
